Carolyn Park Presbyterian Church
Order of Worship
The front doors of Carolyn Park Presbyterian Church welcome you with seasonal wreaths. On the other side is a friendly group of Christians gathered for worship and eager to welcome you into their family.

You'll be greeted by Clara or Lillian or Sylvia after which you may find a seat wherever you are most comfortable. The worship service is casual and upbeat with both contemporary and traditional elements.

To make you even more comfortable we offer here a sample of our Order of Worship. The following liturgy was used on February 21, 1999.

Leader:
 		The Season of Lent is here—40 days when we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a time for gathering around Jesus, joining with his disciples in conversations about what really matters. It is a time for remembering and questioning and allowing ourselves to be changed.

People:
We are ready to join in the conversation.

Leader:
Whatever happens, let us remember that God is with us—in the questions and in the hope.

People:
We know that God is with us.

Leader:
So let us worship God this day in trust and hope.

People:
We worship God with all our hearts. Amen.

Leader One:
 		We light this candle as a symbol of our love for Jesus and our openness to being changed through joining our lives with his.

Leader Two:
In the shining light of confession,

People:
We open ourselves to you, O God.

Leader One:
Loving God, knowing and trusting you is what makes us truly happy. Yet, how easily we forget you and are tempted to go it alone.

Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Offering
We are tempted daily to keep things for ourselves—our time, our talents, our emotional energy, our money. But let us say "no" to the Tempter; let us be free to invest our resources and ourselves in causes greater than ourselves.

Thanksgiving and Dedication
Lead us always to be compassionate. Lead us always to be generous. Lead us always to be alert to needs around us. Lead us always to care for one another. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination
O God, we are filled with wonder as we ask about our beginnings, as we question the evil in our world, as we ponder the mystery of who you are and how we can fulfill your intent for us. Let your Word flow through these words of scripture, that we may hear what you want us to hear. As Jesus overcame the temptation to hear less than your will in verses quoted to him, may we also be empowered to reject false messages and embrace your truth. Amen.

Charge and Benediction

Go forth, people of God, assured of God's grace, living in obedience to God's will and way. The Christian way is not one of pride and superiority but of loving service and sacrifice. god does not call us to a position of power or provide an easy way for those who are faithful. We have met God in this service of worship. Let us walk with God in service to the world.

Now may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
